2020’s Lock-down in Cyprus provided a great opportunity for our team to ‘put heads together’ and create a patent for a useful piece of protective equipment against possible cross-infection for front-line medical staff.
“We felt we had to help with the Covid-19 crisis somehow, and we soon identified that importing any protective equipment quickly was challenging, so we decided to design and manufacture our own Aerosol box here in Cyprus.” The research team set to work and as soon as lock-down measures were relaxed, several aerosol boxes were able to be placed where they were needed most – on the front line in our island’s hospitals.
George Ioakim on behalf of the research team of Kalliopi First Aid Training also presented an Aerosol Box for the needs of the Intensive Care Unit of Paphos General Hospital.
According to the Scientific Director of the hospital for Covid-19, Yosif Moutiris, the aerosol box offers protection to health professionals in case of intubation of a suspicious or confirmed patient of Covid-19.
“We are the second general hospital in which the protective box is placed, which, according to Mr Ioakim, “aims to offer protection to the workers in the front line”.
Mr Moutiris congratulated the team of researchers for their work and thanked them warmly for the donation, which will be used in the most appropriate way.
